This Christmas, we look at the impact of HOPE and HARDSHIP and how they often go together! As we again remember the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, we will see Mary’s Surprise (Luke 1:26-27); Mary’s Surrender (Luke 1:38); Mary’s Song (Luke 1:46-56) and Mary’s Sadness (Luke 2:25-35).
In his second message on “God Speaks” Daniel starts off in Heb 1:1-3 reminding us that God speaks powerfully through His Son. He goes through many passages showing us that as we look in Scripture we can see and know God’s guidance for all sorts of situations. We CAN trust God to guide us!
Steve tells the story of the Israelites sending the 12 spies into the Promised Land but only two of them (Caleb and Joshua) trusted God, so the whole nation spent the next 38 years wandering in the desert before coming back to the Jordan, across from Jericho. Now they are ready to trust God and enter the land. Are you prepared to trust God?
We have the whole of Scripture to lead us and to guide us but we need to seek God; we need to seek His will. We also need to be very aware of the sin of unbelief. Jesus came to do the will of His Father. If we want real life – that’s what we need to do too! The big question is; what have you done with Jesus?
At this year’s Sunday School Anniversary, David focuses on three important things that we should do as God’s special people – we should love one another, we should apologise or say sorry if we hurt someone or if we hurt God and we should forgive those who hurt us! These things aren’t easy to do but they are part of “Loving God”.
Nearly every good thing starts with labour and pain! Steve starts in Genesis looking at the physical pain of bringing a new life into the world before going on to the pain associated with bringing about the Church, a new Pastor, the New Creation and also our own New Birth.
Daniel speaks from Heb 1 and Ex 3 as well as other passages about the various ways that God speaks to us – including through the Bible, through the Son, through the Spirit. Whether it be a voice of command or a still small voice or any other way that God chooses, we need to be ready to listen and to respond!
Reading from Acts 8, we see that Phillip was living out his relationship with Christ. He was listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit; he was so responsive and obedient to God’s voice that the Ethiopian eunuch became a disciple of Christ also.
